A professional diagnosis is preferable when the identification isn’t clear.
How Do Head Lice Spread?
Head lice spread primarily through direct head-to-head contact.
They don’t jump or fly.
They crawl.
The CDC explains that lice transmission occurs most commonly when the hair of an infested person comes into direct contact with another person’s hair.
This means that ordinary casual interaction isn’t necessarily a problem.
However, prolonged head-to-head contact can allow lice to move from one person to another.
Sharing personal items that touch the hair, such as combs or brushes, can also present a possible route of transmission, although direct contact is the primary concern.
Don’t Blame the Person
Finding lice can be embarrassing.
But having head lice has nothing to do with being dirty.
Anyone can get them.
Children commonly encounter them through close contact at school or during play, but adults can also become infested.
